History of jewellery

If we were to look back over time, history teaches us that man has always sought to adorn his body, whether that be by painting, tattoos, piercing or wearing jewellery. Initially, he would have made very basic adornments from shells and pebbles strung together into necklaces, bracelets and rings. Often these basic items of jewellery would be used to ward off evil spirits or as lucky mascots in battle. Necklaces such as crosses or crucifixes were worn by Christians as religious symbols.
